IDK why you got downvoted. Putting fake blood on the bed after a first night isn't uncommon as it's meant to serve as proof of the brides purity. Houses would even hang the bedsheets on the castle gates to show off. And yeah, testing the blood wouldn't have been a thing as blood tests while were technically a thing since the 1800's they were unreliable and this story definitely takes place much earlier technology/time-wise than the 1800's
