Right? I was actually annoyed at Ophelia's letter because it gave no room for what Emilia might choose to do. It said "do everything in your power to make sure Emilia has the grandest debut imaginable" but left no room for Emilia to say she's not interested in a debut to start with. To be fair I do think she should have gone anyway, partly because her holding the café is as much her running away because of grief as it is something she wants to do and I think she needs to make a decision about her future that's not informed by grief eventually. But it feels like Ophelia has a whole lot more planned for her (since the letter has more pages) and I don't like that it seems Emilia will just do whatever Ophelia wanted without taking into account her wants and desires that might come about without Ophelia's influence.
