I think that the mother became mad bc she always had to protect herself and her child from the other wives, and thei lives were always at risk, thats why they always had to be perfect which made the mother extra stressed about how the child behaved which made her hit him so he would be perfect, which would make his position stable and his life safe, And I think that all this became too much on her thats why she wanted to leave this world together with her child, she didnt want him to suffer but even if she tried she couldnt take her own chhilds life even if it meant for him to get to another better place, so she took her own, The look she gave her child in the last panel was not one of hatred but of love, I have trouble seeing how such a mother would hit her child if it werent for the sake of protecting him
